Victor Wooten and the Wooten Brothers to Perform at William Paterson on October 4

The Wooten Brothers, recognized as some of the most innovative musicians in existence—will perform at William Paterson University in Wayne on Friday, October 4 as part of the University’s fall 2024 WP Presents! and Jazz Room series. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus.

Victor Wooten, a five-time Grammy Award-winning artist, has graced the cover of Bass Player Magazine five times. He is a founding member of the eclectic group Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and is recognized as one of the greatest living bassists today. He was named one of the top 10 bassists of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Joseph Wooten has a dizzying list of talents that is impressive even by the Wooten clan’s standards, and he’s currently the keyboardist for the Steve Miller Band (since 1993).

Roy “Futureman” Wooten, also a five-time Grammy Award winner, is best known for his masterful drumming and percussion skills and is a founding member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Roy, a seasoned drum set player, is mostly known for his frenzied, inimitable on-stage performances heightened by his surreal choice of instruments: his trademark inventions “The Drumitar” and “RoyEl” keyboard.

Regi Wooten’s signature guitar style of chording, slapping, tapping and frenzied strumming has earned him world-wide notoriety and comparisons to Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Chuck Berry.

Together, the Wooten Brothers bring an uncanny level of experience, originality, and musical expertise to the stage. Their shows will be a high-energy, super-funky, artistic blend of styles including original songs and classics.

Tickets for the concert are $59 for Gold Circle; $49 for Orchestra/Front Loge, and $39 for Rear Loge. An add-on VIP package is available for $50 that includes an exclusive poster and pre-show meet and greet with Q&A in addition to the performance. William Paterson University’s Jazz Room series is the longest-running program of its kind in the United States. Launched in 1978, the Jazz Room has welcomed more than 500 jazz legends to the stage, including Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter, Joe Williams, Marian McPartland, Slide Hampton, Kenny Burrell, Joe Lovano, Kenny Garrett, Clark Terry, Michael and Randy Brecker, the Vanguard Orchestra, and more. Concerts have encompassed the entire spectrum of jazz, from early jazz and swing to avant garde, and from intimate solo performances to big bands.

The performance series provides support for the University’s internationally renowned Jazz Studies Program, founded in 1973. The program draws students from across the United States and abroad under the current direction of Grammy Award-winning pianist Bill Charlap.

The Jazz Room at William Paterson University has been made possible, in part, by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
