The New Jersey College Loan to Assist State Students (NJCLASS) is a loan program designed to assist New Jersey families with financing higher education or for those families outside of New Jersey who have children attending New Jersey schools. The application must be completed and submitted along with required supporting documents to the New Jersey Office of Student Assistance for approval. A credit check is performed to determine the borrowers ability to repay the loan. If approved, the Financial Aid Office receives a request to certify enrollment and other eligibility factors. Important Changes to the NJCLASS Student Loan Program A student must file a FAFSA to have their eligibility for federal student aid determined. The school MUST deduct the student’s eligibility for ALL available aid including Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans from the total Cost of Attendance to calculate the NJCLASS loan amount.
